Boron carbide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula B₄C. It is one of the three hardest materials (after diamond and cubic boron nitride), with a Mohs hardness of approximately 9.5. It is commonly used in tank armor, bulletproof vests, and many industrial applications such as wear-resistant materials, ceramic reinforcement, lightweight armor, and reactor neutron absorbers.
Dense fused alumina also called dense corundum, which is a high-grade refractory material with α-Al₂O₃ as its main crystalline phase and a grayish-white color. It is characterized by a high melting point, high bulk density, and low porosity. At high temperatures, it exhibits excellent wear resistance, slag resistance, volume stability, and thermal shock resistance, and is considered one of the better refractory raw materials in the corundum series.
