Dense fused alumina

Dense fused alumina also called dense corundum, which is a high-grade refractory material with α-Al₂O₃ as its main crystalline phase and a grayish-white color. It is characterized by a high melting point, high bulk density, and low porosity. At high temperatures, it exhibits excellent wear resistance, slag resistance, volume stability, and thermal shock resistance, and is considered one of the better refractory raw materials in the corundum series.

Applications

Widely used in iron and steel metallurgy, petrochemicals, building materials, ceramics, and other industries, mainly as:
  • Refractory ramming mix for blast furnace iron troughs
  • Castables, ramming mixes, and prefabricated parts
  • Continuous casting components (long nozzles, slide gates, seating bricks)
  • Porous bricks, stopper rods, and various shaped products
  • High-grade corundum bricks and premium refractory aggregates
Compared with traditional lining materials, dense fused alumina can withstand higher temperatures and stronger erosion, significantly extending service life and reducing overall costs.

Advantages of Dense Fused Alumina

  • Composition and Structure: Main crystal phase α-Al₂O₃ content >96%, apparent porosity <4%, high bulk density, light gray color
  • Physical and Chemical Properties: Excellent wear resistance, slag resistance, volume stability, and thermal shock resistance; outstanding acid and alkali resistance; stable performance at high temperatures
  • Thermal Performance: High thermal conductivity
  • Manufacturing Process: High-purity alumina is melted with reducing agents in an electric arc furnace, followed by controlled cooling to ensure high purity and low porosity.
